Rugs with a Story.

Authentic. Timeless. Handwoven.

Our Story

La Maison Tamurt was founded in 2022 by Hamza, a Marrakesh native, and Moataz, his friend from Tunisia, who met in Vancouver and bonded over a shared appreciation for sustainable and traditional Berber art. The name Tamurt—“land” in Amazigh—reflects the origins of these handcrafted rugs and the Moroccan landscapes that inspire their designs: the mountains, deserts, and valleys where weaving traditions have been practiced for centuries.

Moroccan rugs and textiles are an essential part of the country’s cultural and artistic heritage, deeply intertwined with the identity of Amazigh (Berber) communities. These rugs are more than mere decorative pieces—they tell stories, convey traditions, and embody the craftsmanship of generations of women weavers. Moroccan weaving techniques and rug styles vary widely depending on region, tribe, and historical influences.
